Not advocating the writing of such, but I found this Erotic Thesaurus – A Guide to Purple-Prose for the Literary Artist. Edit 08.19.2012: Recently this site has been down for exceeding its bandwidth. If it’s not working, my site will (usually) strike-through the link text. If that continues, I’ll remove the link.Read More →

I give up.  I can’t fight this feeling anymore.  I want a kindle! You can pick out a book and buy it, for a lesser price, in minutes.  You can take it anywhere.  Imagine how easily this baby would fit in your purse.  If I had a kindle, I’d never go anywhere without it.  It’d be like my American Express.  I can’t imagine any reader not being in love with this baby.  And, since writers are readers first… it’s today’s Material Girl pick. Update 6.29.2011: Of course, I did finally get my Kindle.  Read me gushing about how awesome it truly is.Read More →

Let me preface this by saying, I have children.  From 4 to 14, which means I watch everything from The Secret Life of an American Teenager to The Imagination Movers.  And, yeah, I realize my kids should be reading.  My kids do read.  They just also watch television and play video games.  Sueme.  TV is flashier and easier for them. There goes that point again, making a break for it.  Monday night, my daughter’s watched Spectacular, a much hyped, brand new movie from Nickolodeon.  Except, it’s not all that new. Premise: Boy is good at one thing, probably has a future as a professional.  BoyRead More →

Surprising things you can get for free. (Not soap, though.) Like your credit report (no seriously!) and a savings account and… well, just read the article. Very cool.Read More →

I just watched this, Saturday night, and I’m still so in LOVE with this story, and the characters–Holly Golightly, I adore you, and you’re crazy yet vulnerable way of living!  Paul!  Fred, Darling, I love that you’re a freaking manwhore and the hero–and you pull it off! I want to read the book, I want to own the movie (I netflixed it) so that whenever I feel sad, I can watch this movie and make my heart smile again.Read More →

I love this site, vintageglam.com*.  It’s just fun to look at.  And while I’m so NOT into the Martha Stewart It’s-A-Good-Thing style of living (who the frack has time for that?), I still enjoy the the ideas and printouts.  Like Mad Lib thank you notes.  What writer can’t appreciate a good Mad Lib?  Or a clothesline guest book.  It’s so unique, and so… not taking ourselves too seriously.  Anyway, look around.  Waste an hour. *Update 6.29.2011: Vintage Glam has become Ruffled, a site about weddings. **Update 7.5.2011: Apparently it was always about weddings and I just thought the talk of placecards and DIY centerpieces wasRead More →

Sometimes I just assume everyone knows about the sites I love.  Then I realize, perhaps not.  So, I’m linking to one of my favorite sites on the internet:  Deviant Art. You know how in high school, there’s this place where all the cool people hang out?  Well, Deviant Art is where all the incredibly talented cool people hang out, and you’re invited.  Go.  Go waste an hour.Read More →

I mentioned on Saturday that the house planning book I bought didn’t live up to my expectations.  Here’s hoping this will: Home Quick Planner: Reusable, Peel & Stick Furniture & Architectural Symbols The Home Quick Planner includes 700 precut, reusable peel-and-stick, 1/4-inch scale furniture and architectural symbols, plus a 5,600 square-foot floor plan grid to help you design your own building, remodeling and decorating projects. (Also good for moving.) Symbols include everything you need from tables, chairs, couches, beds and pianos to every standard kitchen cabinet and appliance, an extensive assortment of bathroom fixtures and cabinets (for example, twelve sets of sink designs, six differentRead More →

No, I’m not referring to Dickens or even Bronte.  I’m talking Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, MacGyver(!), even The Love Boat.  This awesome site, that I’m sure CBS operates, has episodes from classic tv.  And not just one or two.  It has the entire three seasons of Star Trek.  Good stuff, friends.  Happy holidays!Read More →

Or the prank call.  You decide! Check this site out, getmooh.com.  It will call you (or someone else, I suppose) at a time and date of your specification, although I couldn’t get it to move past December.  *shrug*  The potential for abuse is pretty high here, so check it out while it’s still around. At the very least, listen to the recordings, just for the amusement value.  Although, listening now, holy crap, did Alec Baldwin talk some smack to his kid or what (second recording down)?Read More →
