I give up. I can’t fight this feeling anymore. I want a kindle! You can pick out a book and buy it, for a lesser price, in minutes. You can take it anywhere. Imagine how easily this baby would fit in your purse. If I had a kindle, I’d never go anywhere without it. It’d be like my American Express. I can’t imagine any reader not being in love with this baby. And, since writers are readers first… it’s today’s Material Girl pick. Update 6.29.2011: Of course, I did finally get my Kindle. Read me gushing about how awesome it truly is.Read More →

Thumb drive, flash drive, jump drive… they have lots of names but what they do is save your life in the case of a computer catastrophe. I once lost 150 pages when my hard drive crashed. That’s when I bought mine. So, here’s an adorable one. You don’t have to have a cute one, I just liked it.Read More →

I’ve been looking for something to give me that Bitch, OK! feeling. My plan is to write during the week, and plot/revise/layer on the weekends. And it works. I think it works really well for me. But it doesn’t make it any easier to just sit down and do it. In a purely whimsical way, I present these to you: Magic Bean Wishes Plant these bean seeds and watch them magically rise up from the soil with an inspirational message stamped on each bean. Grow indoors or out. Includes 15 assorted beans with messages such as “faith,” “love,” “heal” and more. I kind of reallyRead More →

Let’s dream a little today, shall we? Because what I need, what my heart’s true desire is, I can’t afford. And you probably can’t either. But that’s okay, we’re dreaming. We’re dreaming of a computer so intuitively functional, it makes writing a breeze. We’re dreaming of a computer that they make the best writing software for, like Curio*. We’re dreaming about the Macbook Air. I won’t sell you on it. Just look at it, for heaven’s sake, and tell me you don’t covet it. If you can afford it, buy one, right now. Trust me on this. If you can’t? Come sit by me andRead More →

These picture posts are becoming commonplace. Next thing you know, I’ll be uploading illustrations I’ve made in photoshop, like how to connect your printer. Yes, that was an awesome segue, thank you. For Material Girl Monday, I’m going to talk to you about some of the tools I use to make my brand of magic. So, picture the first: That’s my big comfy chair. I’ve been alternately drawing and describing homes and writing character sketches (the big binder on the bottom, with the sheet protectors, the legal pad, the top notebook, and for good measure GMC) and line editing (another black binder and old reliable,Read More →

Bitterness Never be afraid to share your dreams with the world, because there’s nothing the world loves more than the taste of really sweet dreams. If you go over to Despair, Inc.’s site, you’ll find dozens more of these hilarious demotivators. I want them all.Read More →

I made reference recently to the acronym B.I.C.H.O.K. (Butt In Chair, Hands on Keyboard). As I mentioned, it’s not always my thing, although I do get that self-discipline is crucial. From Ninth Moon*, a site that’s a virtual goody bag for writers, they have a B.I.C.H.O.K. charm, and that’s my offering today: *Edit 4.14.16: This item is no longer available from Ninth Moon. This site now offers designs for promotional items for authors.Read More →

And, on that premise, the thing I am intensely lusting for is… this. I nearly choked on my coffee when I happened to see it in an email from Overstock this week. Update 06.28.2011: I recently read this book (loved it). I received it from paperbackswap.com because I had credits and it was on auto-order… anyway, I put off reading it for months. Want to know why? Because it’s in paper. And I really love the convenience of my Kindle. Of course, when you can’t put it down and end up reading it in a couple of days, convenience isn’t such a big deal.Read More →

This site has some awesome software most days. Two things to watch for: 1) when you go to the download page, check to make sure it’s not a “time limited offer” (not all are) and 2) install it that day. If you try to install it later, it won’t go through.
Giveaway of the Day

I know, I suck. Monday is dance day (not for me, for my daughter, although it’s proven inspirational, so yay!)–anyway, I’m late. Sorry. Really. Here’s what I want. I think it describes the writing process perfectly. And, I drink coffee, especially when I’m writing, like I breathe air.Read More →
